‘For mere seconds I set foot on the ground to the earth below me, only to be uprooted at the shadow of normalcy.’
I am youth,
I am woman,
I am artist,
I am citizen,
A being so uniquely constructed by fibers intertwined with dimensions creating life, my life. Much of the woman you see before you was skillfully constructed by culture, family, and everything that has been laid in my path to constitute my past and present. As a citizen to this civilization I am in constant raging anxiety when in regards to the presentation of my exterior canvas. How could I not be? When society’s constant derailment of my so-called ‘creativity’ when in reality it’s despoilment to a canvas worth being displaying in the museum of ‘model citizens’.
I am woman, so I must be nice and apologetic.
I am youth, so I must sit quiet and question nothing.
I am artist; contrived, restricted and forced to label my creativity.
I am citizen, trained to follow the masses to the edge of our own demise.
This is a calling to all who are fighting against gender restrictions, biases and are ready to unidentify with such. A calling to the youth that has been derailed from ‘true self ‘ by the distortion that fame and status are the indicators of a ‘meaningful life’. This calling is to all artists, whom are muted and constrained by society’s unwillingness to challenge the unknown. A calling to any citizen suppressed by the numbing normalcy wanting to break through.
